Valach Motors 800cc 45hp 7 Cylinder Radial Engine. Want!

OMGosh is this ever an awesome little engine!  It's designed for model airplanes (really?), but at 800cc and apparently about 45hp, I'm thinking it should be at the front of a whole new generation of fab single seat experimental airplanes.  This is exactly the kind of stuff that keeps my mind from never shutting down... if I only I had the cash to back up my overactive thinker : )

The engine is from Valach Motors in the Czech Republic and is being sold in the U.S. by Troy Built Models in Florida.  This 62 pound 800cc 7 cylinder radial is absolutely beautiful to look at and to listen to.  I'd say the sound alone is worth the $9,799 price!

Mmmmmmmmm. You're right, that baby probably sounds gorgeous. And 45hp is right at the low end of viable for a real-live airplane engine. I wonder if it would work in an ultralight Graham Lee Nieuport?

To fly full scale on 800cc you need to gear down for a 62-72inch prop. You might get by direct drive, but you will suffer less thrust and more noise, and be limited to one seat sorta sailplany types. My geared 670cc flat twin 4stroke flies a two seat ultralight just fine with a 68inch prop.

How about a 2-place tandem scale Ford Trimotor?

pluggr- I like the way you think! What an awesome plaything that would be... but it would have to have corrugated skin, where we gonna get that?

How long would those exposed valves with no lubrication last?

How about a 9 cylinder version. At 3800 RPM it should produce in the mid 50's HP. Better yet, a geared 9 cylinder spinning a larger prop. While we're at it, wouldn't a twin row 18 cylinder geared engine, producing well over 100HP be great for a 1/2 scale F4-U Corsair? It would be cheaper than my house!

I think the folks that take the Harley motors and put a belt drive on them have a really practical good performing package.
