Video: GoPro, Red Bull Wing Suiters And Kirby Chambliss At OSH12. Wow!

GoPro had quite a display at OSH12 and they sold a boatload of HD HERO2 cameras and accessories during the week. In fact, they sold out of everything before the week was over. But they didn't just show up to make some coin, they came to capture video to entertain us as well. Ok, they entertain us to sell cameras to make coin... but I think you get my point.

This awesome video from many different HERO2 perspectives is part of the Red Bull Air Force, specifically two of the wingsuit flyers and Kirby Chambliss having some big fun during the airshow. The wingsuiters exited the DC-3 'Duggy' over Wittman Field and then they fly a wingsuit formation as Kirby does barrel rolls around them. It was a perfect day (with some really nice views of the airport and Lake Winnebago) and the aerosports are fantastic. Be sure to watch this in HD fullscreen for maximum effect!

HD Video: Kirby Chambliss, Red Bull, And GoPro Make A Great Combination!

This sweet promo video from the GoPro youtube channel for the HD HERO2 makes for fun 4 minutes! It has a strong music video feel with a loud background and edgy editing... usually I'm all for just let me hear the airplane but I gotta say I like this as entertainment. And the crazy-boy smile on Kirby's face as he flies inverted around some Arizona rock formations pretty much says it all.

Btw... I miss the Red Bull Air Races : /

(to watch in HD: hit play and then pause - then look for the 'gear' icon in the lower
right of the video window & select 1080p... click 'fullscreen' and enjoy!)

Video: Red Bull P-38 Lightning At Duxford Flying Legends 2011 (mmmm)

The videos from the youtube channel of Flying Machines TV are consistantly amazing, and this one of the Red Bull P-38 Lightning flying at the 2011 Duxford Flying Legends event in England is no exception. In my mind, the P-38 is one of the most beautiful and unique aircraft ever built. And while I'm usually all about having a 'stick' for controlling an aircraft, I find the yoke setup in the P-38 to be oddly fascinating... and the cockpit views of this flight show that yoke quite nicely.

 The Lockheed P-38: mmmm

Oshkosh 2010 Pic Stream #2 - Sunshine & Avgeek Happiness! (19 pix)

AirPigz 'Bacon Party' Tonight!  5pm-7pm in Camp Scholler
( Lindbergh Ave at 43rd Street - click for map )

The campground is definitely drying out, but the big Class A motorhomes still aren't being let in as of late Monday evening. Hopefully tomorrow the ground will have firmed up enough for them. My campsite isn't really all put together yet... I've been too busy with airplanes and stuff.

My early morning trip into the show grounds went right by the fabulous Kirby Chambliss Red Bull airplane that was sitting right outside the Cirrus booth. The second Red Bull airplane on a stick was pretty cool to see in the morning air as well.

Just to the south of Kirby's airplane was one of the 16 Cirrus SR20's recently purchased by Purdue University for their flight school.

The Kodiak sitting on amphibious floats was looking pretty sharp in the early sunshine. I've got the camera on the monopod up in the air as I often do, which can make the airplane look smaller than it is... note that the wing is essentially at the height of the building roof. This is a big and tall package of an airplane!

Red Bull Air Race and Airshow pilot Michael Goulian

Interview with Michael Goulian - 36:54

Michael Goulian has years of experience flying airshows and is also in his 5th year as a Red Bull Air Race pilot... he really knows extreme flying!  In this interview we talk about his first 2 races so far in the 2010 RBAR season as well as a lot of details of what it's like flying fast, low, and pulling up to 12 g's.  It's pretty amazing stuff.  He also shares some interesting details on the race coming up May 8 and 9 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

We also talk about his experience as an airshow pilot, including the upcoming performance on June 12th and 13th at the Indy Airshow.  He flies the very cool green Edge 540 in the Red Bull Air Races and has a relatively new Extra 330, sponsored by ASB.TV that he flies in airshows around the country.

The coverage of the Red Bull Air Races via the live stream, which is available from both the RBAR and Mike Goulian websites, is some of the best sports coverage in the world.  I highly recommend you join me watching this next race in Brazil on May 9.  Team 99 has some big changes planned that should be starting with this race... it's gonna be a great one to watch live.

I'm also looking forward to watching Michael fly the ASB.TV Extra at the Indy Airshow in June... Michael Goulian is definitely where the action is!

2010 Red Bull Air Race Season Starts March 26-27 In Abu Dhabi

Michael Goulian in the race he won at Budapest in 2009

Winter is finally winding down, and the Red Bull Air Races are definitely winding up for another big year!  The first race of the season is coming soon with qualifying on Friday, March 26, and then the races on Saturday, March 27 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.  This is the 6th straight year that the races have included Abu Dhabi.

If you haven’t already, then right now is a perfect time to go to RedBullAirRace.com and get your head into what will be going on this year at the races.  I know I’m planning to keep a close eye on all 8 races scheduled so far for 2010.  I was able to catch the 2009 Budapest race via the live webcast, and it was by far the most impressive event, and event production I’ve ever seen in a webcast.  I’m still working to confirm if the Abu Dhabi race will be covered live online, but if it is, I’ll be up early Saturday, March 27 to watch the guys tear up the sky.  You should too : )

Red Bull Air Race 2009 Recap Video As Excitement Builds For 2010 Season!

2009 was the year I really discovered the Red Bull Air Races.  Yeah, I'd known about them before, but I just didn't really pay all that much attention.  That's all changed now.

There are so many reasons why this is an amazing sport.  It's extremely well run and presented, and the races are intense with some serious flying challenges facing the large field of international pilots... it's not just a glorified airshow stunt.  Then, add the incredibly hot video coverage of the events and you wind up with a full package of A+ motorsports!  I watched the entire race day events from the Budapest race live via the free internet feed and it was the most impressive motorsports presentation I've ever seen.

Now is a great time to watch this 2009 recap video to get up to speed on how last season went as we begin to set our sights on the 2010 season.  The first race is scheduled for March 26-27 in Abu Dhabi - that's not very far away!  And for Americans, there will be a June 5-6 race at Windsor, Ontario (near Detroit) and one June 19-20 in New York City. Loads more details and the full race schedule at RedBullAirRace.com.
